Mechatronics Technician for Optical Link, Geneva, Switzerland (EP-ESE-BE-2026-104-GRAE)
What you will do
You will take part in the fabrication and assembly of a wide range of electronic and opto-electronic test systems used to evaluate component performance.
Using various machines in our mechanical workshop (CNC routers, milling machines, lathes, drill presses, etc.), you will manufacture parts to support the activities of the ESE group.
You will also contribute to building wiring harnesses that connect devices to test systems, including for use in demanding environments such as radiation test facilities. In addition, you will assist in assembling and testing large-scale setups.
Your responsibilities
- Use machine tools to create mechanical parts for test setups.
- Assemble wiring and fibre harnesses.
- Solder electronic components onto PCBs.
- Design simple PCBs after receiving training if necessary.
- Carry out testing of cabling harnesses and assembled electronic circuits using a range of laboratory instruments.
Your profile
- Hands-on experience in mechanical parts manufacturing.
- Basic understanding of compact CNC machines.
- Familiarity with electronic board assembly, cable and wiring fabrication.
- Performed assembly, wiring, and testing of electromechanical assemblies.
- Your studies focused on Technician in Mechatronic / Mec / Elect (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
Your skills
- Ability to operate conventional machine tools.
- Capable of building, wiring and testing Electromechanical assemblies.
- Working in teams: effective collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Ideal start date: 01/09/2026
Contract duration: 24 month contract
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
Employment conditions
- A valid driving licence.
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree. You can’t hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.
