Automation Engineer
Do you want to help develop advanced automation solutions for the green transition within energy infrastructure, oil & gas, offshore wind, and Power-to-X.
As an Automation Engineer at Semco Maritime, you will join our Automation & Electrical team, working with complex control systems for energy facilities, marine installations, and offshore platforms. You will play a key role in designing, developing, commissioning and service solutions that operate in critical environments with high demands for safety and reliability.
At Semco Maritime safety is a core value, and in this role, you will contribute to maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture while delivering innovative solutions. Above all, your work will make a real change for the global energy sector.
Your place of work will be at our Global HQ located in Esbjerg, the hub of the Danish energy industry, right on the waterfront – views do not get any better than this. The position is full-time, and you can expect to travel 10-30 days per year.
Your tasks & responsibilities
You will work across the full project lifecycle in close collaboration with project managers, electrical designers, and customers.
Your main tasks include:
- Designing and developing PLC software, creating functional designs and structured code for complex marine and offshore systems.
- Automating BMS, PMS, and hybrid energy systems (ESS, shore power, generator control).
- Integrating and parameterizing frequency converters and motor/pump control.
- Performing network and system integration.
- Conducting FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities both onshore and offshore.
- Troubleshooting live systems in operation, including critical installations.
- Maintaining close dialogue with project management, electrical designers, and customers.
Your profile & qualifications
You have a technical background in automation, electrical engineering, or mechatronics, and you likely come from wave energy, wind, oil & gas, or the maritime sector. You are used to working with complex systems where robustness, safety, and uptime are essential.
You are a team player with a proactive approach to your responsibilities.
We expect that you:
- Have experience with PLC programming in Siemens TIA Portal, preferably using SCL.
- Have worked with automation solutions in the energy sector or in marine/offshore environments.
- Understand automation architecture, industrial networks, and protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP, and CAN/J1939.
- Have knowledge of energy systems, power management, or hybrid solutions such as ESS and shore power.
- Work in a structured manner and can translate functional requirements into well-documented, scalable code.
- Thrive in a project-driven environment with close cross-disciplinary collaboration and customer interaction.
- Full fluency in English is a requirement. Danish fluency will be an advantage.
